La novel·la cavalleresca Curial i Güelfa és, sens dubte, una de les obres més fascinants de la nostra literatura. Va ser escrita a mitjans del segle XV per un autor anònim del nostre domini lingüístic. La trama de l'obra es desenvolupa en un ambient noble i la intenció del seu autor és «recitar quant costà a un gentil cavaller i a una noble dama l'amar-se l'un a l'altre...» Fidel a aquesta declaració, l'anònim autor ens narra una apassionant història d'amor on els personatges viuen molt intensament els seus sentiments: gelosia, enveja, desig... Al mateix temps, però, va molt més enllà i ens conta també les aventures d'armes i l'ascensió social del jove Curial, protagonista de la novel·la, endinsant-nos en el món de l'edat mitjana, una època en què hi havia cavallers reals que intentaven imitar els herois de les novel·les.
